Auburn Collar Size Guide
Measure twice, buy once
When it comes time to get a new collar, take a few minutes to make sure you’re getting the right size and your dog will thank you!
Collars can stretch over time and sizing can vary by style and manufacturer, so even if your dog’s current collar fits and you know its size, it’s important to take a new measurement before buying a collar.
For a buckle collar, follow the measurement instructions below to measure your dog’s neck or current collar and then check our size chart to see what collar length will fit.
Martingale collars are sized differently than buckle collars, since they slide on over a dog’s head. If you plan to get a martingale collar, use the instructions and sizing chart at the bottom of this page instead.
Tip: Check your dog’s collar regularly for fit and wear.
Measuring your dog
If this is your dog’s first collar, if you need a collar in a different size, or if you have been using a martingale or slip collar, the best way to ensure a good fit is by measuring your dog directly.
Measure at the narrowest point of your dog’s neck, just as you would like the new collar to fit. The collar should be snug without being so tight that it will cause discomfort or loose enough to slide over your dog’s head.
As a rule of thumb, a well-fitting collar should leave just enough room for you to slide two fingers between the collar and your dog’s neck.
Measuring your current collar
If you are satisfied with the fit of your dog’s current buckle collar, you can measure the collar itself to get a new collar that fits the same.
For a standard buckle collar (with holes like a belt), measure from the buckle’s center bar, where it connects to the collar, to the hole that you are currently using.
For a side-release buckle collar (with two ends that clip together), measure from the end of the female part of the buckle to the opposite end of the collar, excluding the male part of the buckle.

Martingale Collar Size Guide
When measuring your dog for a martingale collar, keep in mind that the collar will need to be able to slip over your dog’s head, since it doesn’t have a buckle.
First, measure the widest part of your dog’s head. Next, measure your dog’s neck as you would for a standard, buckle-style collar. Use the larger of the two measurements.
